happy holidays, septa style

April 12th, 2009 · No Comments

I was walking down the street to dinner today, Easter Sunday.  I spotted a SEPTA bus running down Chestnut street, but something was off.  On the LED sign which usually shows the route and the destination, the bus was rotating the sign between the route number and a “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” message which was flanked by [...]

relay for life at penn liveblogging

March 27th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Full Disclosure: The rain started falling pretty hard after midnight, so in order to keep my phone from getting soaked, I stopped liveblogging after the 1:30am update. However, after I got back home I updated the rest of entry for what did happen that night.  Enjoy!
4:00am: Closing Ceremonies.  Allison and Michelle, The Chairs, get on [...]

100 seasons of futility

October 26th, 2008 · No Comments

I’m currently watching Game 3 of the World Series of the Phillies vs. the Rays, and they keep touting this stat of “100 season of futility” referring to the fact that in 25 years, the four Philadelphia sports teams (Eagles, Flyers, 76ers, and Phillies) have not won a national championship since the 76ers did it [...]

rest in peace zoidberg

September 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Zoidberg the Betta Fish, a life-long resident of Philadelphia, passed away from natural causes this week.  He was 1 3/4 years old.
Named after the fictional doctor in the “Futurama” series, he will be remembered for his weekly-changing monikers, which included “Foreign Correspondent Zoidberg”, “Assistant to the Regional Manager Zoidberg”, “Hot Rod Zoidberg”, and “Supreme Mugwump [...]

some philly love from ups?

July 15th, 2008 · No Comments

So I went to track some packages today, and I was greeted on www.ups.com with a language-selection splash page.  And lo and behold, what do I see?  Is that Philadelphia City Hall in the background?  For all the world to see?  I’m guessing yes.  I think that the street sign is also a giveaway since [...]

transformers 2 casting call in philadelphia

May 31st, 2008 · 2 Comments

Today there was an open casting call for Transformers 2 being held in Philadelphia at the Wachovia Center.  They were looking for extras, and Kristine wanted to go, so I figured, why not?  Apparently one of the scenes involves students moving in to their dorms, and although Shia LaBeouf is apparently attending Princeton, they’re using [...]

So it’s been pointed out to me that I haven’t posted anything new in about a month now.  Well, in alphabetical order, here are a list of things that have kept me busy over the past three weeks.
Battlestar Galactica – A few weeks ago, I was about to take a nap when Kristine flipped on [...]

the dark side of the moon

March 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Today on my way home from work WMGK played Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon in it’s entirety.  I thought that was pretty awesome how they played the whole thing.  They said afterwards that on this day 35 years ago the album was released in the UK.
“Money” needs to be a song in [...]

being a new york sports fan in philadelphia

December 9th, 2007 · No Comments

Since I entered college I’ve been fortunate enough to have all three of my favorite teams (Rangers, Mets, and Giants) be division rivals with Philadelphia teams (Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles), so the teams I like are in town fairly often.
While I’ve seen the Mets multiple times in Philadelphia, the Giants come to town only once [...]
